On June 2, 2012, Margaret C. Springer was honored at a service in Danville Green cemetery with a memorial reception following at the Danville Historical Society. In 1968, Margaret and her husband, Judge Lewis E. Springer, Jr., moved to Danville. She taught in the Danville and Peacham school systems until her retirement.
In Danville, Margaret was a member of the Women’s Club, served as President of the Board of Directors at the Pope Library and for 35 years served as President of the Danville Historical Society. She, Mary Prior and Paul Chouinard were instrumental in guiding the Society through the process of purchasing and renovating the Choate-Sias House, thanks to an extraordinary donation from an anonymous donor. The Society now houses its collection of artifacts and archival historical history in its own lovely space on Hill Street and much enjoyed helping out with Margaret’s reception.
Besides her civic duties, Margaret found time to to garden, sew, cook and entertain. She passed on Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the age of 92.
